Slippery Floors!
A Serious Threat to Your Health and Safety.

Where do people fall the most?

Falls can occur anytime, anyplace, and to anyone while doing everyday activities such as climbing stairs or getting in and out of a bathtub or shower.    As we age the risk of falls and related injuries increases drastically.   In fact after the age of 65, the risk of a fall related hip fracture doubles every five years.   But, falls are not limited to the elderly.  Even young children playing in the bathtubs or showers are at risk of slipping and falling.

Familiarity of surroundings or repetition of tasks do very little to reduce falls.   Most falls occur while performing everyday tasks and activities of daily living.    Falls occur in the following environments:

  • 59% fall in their own home

  • 26% fall in the community

  • 15% fall in institutions such as, nursing home or hospitals (CHIRPP Data, 1997)

Most fractures are a result of a fall in a home, usually related to everyday activities such as walking on stairs, going to the bathroom or working in the kitchen. About 25 percent of all falls are the result of hazards such as slippery or wet surfaces.  The bathroom accounts for the highest percentage of falls in the home at 45%, the kitchen comes in second at 20%.

Why are these two area of the home so dangerous?

Simply put..."it's the water".

Water on floors, water in the bathtub and in the shower account for most of the falls.  Be it young children or senior citizens, if they are not careful, have somebody helping them or have the proper floor treatment, it's only a matter of time before they suffer a debilitating fall.  This fall could cost a young family thousands of dollars if a child were to fall.  If it were a senior citizen that fell, it could cost them their independence.  A slip and fall accident can have a devastating impact on you, your family, friends and the community.

What can Safe 2 Step do for you?

Our non slip solution will help provide a safer home environment for your family (both young and old).  This means; safer floor surfaces for you and your family.  Young children to elderly parents can benefit from having our non slip solution put on their floors in in their bathtubs.

What type of floors will our non slip solution work on?

The non slip solution can be used on: marble, terrazzo, quarry tiles, ceramic and porcelain tiles and bathtubs, concrete and other stone surfaces.   This non slip solution is not a coating that can wear off.  It is a process that creates a unique tread design that does not change the look or the feel of the floor when it's dry.  But if the floor or the treated surface becomes wet, it is much safer wet than dry.

Why you need SAFE 2 STEP!

In recent studies from the insurance industry, over 225,000 worker compensation claims revealed that slip and fall accidents accounted for over 40% of the dollar claims paid out.  Looking at it that way, it's only a matter of time until a slip and fall accident happens on your property.

The Americans with Disabilities ACT (ADA) passed by congress notes: ...for all businesses open to the public, ADA recommends flooring and walkways have a coefficient of friction level .06 or above.  There are very stiff and severe penalties for failure to comply and some tax benefits for those businesses that take steps to comply with the law.

Our mission at SAFE 2 STEP  is to offer a unique service that help reduce the risk of accidents and injuries as a result of slips and falls in a variety of environments .

After floors have been treated with the SAFE 2 STEP  process, floors are not slippery when wet!
